Abstract

Nutritional status is the balance between the intake and
utilization of food nutrients by man in the process of growth and
development. According to Goon et al. (2011), nutritional status is
an integral component of the overall health of individuals which
provides an indicator of their well-being.
Nutritional status is determined from the assessment of
socioeconomic data, clinical data, anthropometric measurements,
dietary recall, biochemical data and drug-nutrient interaction effects.
School children provide an almost ideal population for growth
assessment and future interventions.
The goal of nutritional assessment in childhood is to identify
and prevent nutritional disorders and detect any malnutrition
symptoms at an early age so that lifestyle changes can take place
before the problem elevates into something more serious with
adverse consequences. Obesity and under-nutrition are the two ends
of malnutrition spectrum.
