Abstract Road embankment is an earth slope constructed to be able to safely withstand static and dynamic vehicle loads that may be imposed upon it during its life. Slope stability analysis is always carried out in order to ensure that the slope analyzed is safe and also to minimize the probability of slope failure. This research is concerned with evaluating road embankment slope deformations. A Finite element model was used to simulate road embankment and truck loading. Plaxis program version 8.2 was used to model the behavior of embankment in this research. Two loading cases were considered which are one truck and two trucks. The parameters studied in this research are types of embankment soil, embankment side slope and types of load. The different types of soil used in construction of embankment are silty sand, loam and stiff clay. The embankment side slopes adopted are 1 Horizontal :1Verticl, 2 Horizontal:1 Verticl and 3 Horizontal :2 Verticl. The types of stresses used are static and dynamic. The main results based on Plaxis model may be summarised in the following points for each part of study: 1- The soil type of stiff clay give best result and factor of safety of the soil was higher than other soil we used. 2- Influence of Side Slope was un effected in vertical displacement. 3- Case studied in dynamic analyses provided less conservative slope factor of safety. 4- The factor of safety for dynamic analysis is lower than static analysis. |
