Abstract This cross-sectional prospective, case-control hospital based study was conducted in Internal Medicine Department, Minia University Hospital in collaboration of flow cytometric unit, South Egypt Cancer Institute from June 2015 to June 2016.This study included 95 subjects who were recruited from inpatient and out -patient clinic and divided in to 3 groups: group I: It included 48 HCV-related cirrhotic patients with HCC (36 men &12 women) group II: It included 24 HCV-related cirrhotic patients without HCC (16 men & 8 women) group III: It Included 23 healthy persons (14 men& 9 women). -Subjects of group II and III were age and sex matched to group I. The age was ranged from 40 to 65 years old in the three groups. This study was carried out to assess the presence of peripheral blood CD4+ CD25+ CD127 Tregs and their possible effects on susceptibility and clinic-pathological features of HCC among Egyptian cirrhotic patients infected with HCV; and to identify the expression of membrane bound TGF-ß1 on these Tregs and evaluate its immunosuppressive function among studied HCC patients. Exclusion criteria Subject had any one of the following criteria was excluded from study: co-infection with HBV and/or HIV; alcohol intake more than or equal 80gm/day for more than 10 years; other causes of liver diseases.auto-immune diseases or any malignancies elsewhere. Patients with intake of interferone, other immune modulator or anticancer therapy or undergoing liver surgery were excluded. |
