Abstract

Milk and dairy products are perfect food for human nutrition due to their contribution of high quality animal protein, high levels of calcium, phosphorus and vitamins. They are essential for infant healthy development, and supplement for diet deficiency of all ages. Inspite of breast milk has been proven to be the perfect food for the infant during the first six months of life as it contains all the nutrients and immunological factors that infants requires to maintain optimal health and growth, there are some cases where it may be insufficient or not available (as in case of bad heath status of mother as in cases of mothers who are diseased with hepatitis virus c or infant special cases like lactose intolerance or low birth weigt or even unfull term infants) and thus, it may need to be supplemented or replaced by infant formula. It is important to mention that milk introduce in many weaning food that contain grains and fruit in powder form or in fuity yoghurt, it introduces also many desserts like rice milk or rice pudding which consumed in Egypt by a wide range of people of all ages due to its palatable taste, nutritious, healthful and relatively inexpensive dairy food. Therfore this study was made by collecting eighty random samples of different types, including 20 infant formula milk powder (infant formula from birth and follow up formula), 30 baby food (Fruit yogurt with different flavor, Blend of milk and grain (powder) with fruit and Pudding (milk with different flavor vanilla-caramel- chocolate) and 30 rice pudding samples were collected from pharmacies, restaurants and supermarkets in Sharkia Governorate and were examined for their microbiological condition.
The bacteriological examination of the samples showed that the mean values of the total colony count /g. in the examined infant formula samples were 1.1×106 and 1.2×106 for infant formula starting from birth and follow up formula samples, respectively, while these values of the examined baby food samples recorded 1.2×106, 5.8×104, and 1.4×107 for fruit yogurt, infant blend milk and grain, and pudding samples respectively, but it was 1.2×106 in rice pudding samples.
