Abstract Low back pain (LBP) remains a common musculoskeletal complaint. Various structures have been incriminated as possible sources of chronic LBP, including the posterior longitudinal ligament, dorsal root ganglia, dura, annular fibers, muscles of the lumbar spine, and facet joints. Facet joint is one of the common causes of low back pain. Therapeutic lumbar facet joint interventions are widely used for pain management of facet joint arthropathy. These interventions include intra articular facet joint injections, lumbar facet joint nerve blocks, and radiofrequency neurotomy. This study included 50 cases with diagnosis of lumbar facet joint arthropathy. The cases are subdivided into two groups, group A: Who received lumbar facet joint injection with Hyalgan 5 mg. group B : Who received lumbar facet joint injection with Hyalgan 5 mg plus Depomedrol 20 mg in each facet joint. These cases are performed during the period from October 2016 to October 2017 at the neurosurgery department, Mansoura University.Preoperative evaluation of patients was performed. The workup included history taking, clinical examination, laboratory workup. Imaging studies like CT, MRI This study lacks long-term follow up of pain and quality of life more than one year. We recommend follow up more than one year to detect recurrent cases and ensure that steroids and hyaluronic acid combination is more effective than hyaluronic acid alone in management of lumbar facet joint arthropathy. |
