Abstract
Summary and Conclusion
It is proved that peritoneal collection in surgery is very important corner stone to establish diagnosis ,and discover the organ affected or injured through studying the nature, physical, chemical and bacteriological characters of the peritoneal aspirated fluid.
Aspiration helps to identify the etiology of the peritoneal collection ( inflammation ,Trauma ,malignancy ,strangulated intestinal obstruction , others).
Identifying the etiology of peritoneal collection helps in management and selection of the method of choice to treat the patient either surgical or medical .
Clinical presentation includes Acute abdomen, Shock and hypotension in case of internal hemorrhage and discharge from the drain post operation. The presentation may be chronic abdominal pain in Malignancy and abdominal mass.
To diagnose peritoneal fluid collection studying of the fluid was done as mentioned before, also other laboratory investigations may help to establish the diagnosis .Hemoglobin and CBC are affected in case of internal hemorrhage ,and Leucocytosis is highly suggestive of peritonitis, Also tumour markers is done in malignancy.
Ultrasound is very important in diagnosis of the etiology and amount of the peritoneal fluid collection. other imaging modalities as CT ,MRI and MRCP may help in diagnosis in difficult problematic case.
At the end diagnostic Aspiration from intraperitoneal fluid collection is considered a simple available test that help in diagnosis of major problematic cases.
