Abstract

The present study was carried out at Private Rabbitry Farm under supervision of Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University from March to May 2015. The chemical analysis was performed in Laboratory of Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University. The present investigation aimed to study the productive performance and physiological status of growing rabbits fed different levels of hydroponic barley. Besides, the study included investigating the effect of hydroponic barley levels on performance digestibility of nutrients, some blood constituents, carcass traits and economic efficiency.Growth trails:Seventy two sexed (36 male + 36 female) NZW rabbits, about 6 weeks of age and with an initial body weight of (860g), were obtained from a local commercial farm and used in the present experiment. Rabbits were used to evaluate to which extent hydroponic barley can replace commercial feed in growing rabbit diets. Rabbits were divided according to their sex in to two groups (male and female), each group were divided randomly according to their sex in to weights into four equal experimental groups (9 rabbits each). The first diet was used as control, whereas, groups 2, 3 and 4 were fed on diets containing hydroponic barley which used as a source to substitute 40, 60 and 100% of commercial feed, respectively. Experiment was lasted for 6 weeks.
