Abstract Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) is an important condition that needs to be considered for the safe care of hospitalized patients to avoid related morbidities and mortalities. It adds to healthcare costs and negatively affects patients’ quality of life (QoL). The most dreadful consequence of DVT is the potentially fatal pulmonary embolism. Without prophylaxis, the probability of DVT remains high in hip or knee surgery whether for fracture or joint replacement. Although the application of proper thrombo-prophylaxis is crucial in these patients, yet no prophylaxis guidelines are established. The aim of the study: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of implementing nursing care guidelines on the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis among orthopedic patients. Research hypothesis: The occurrence of deep venous thrombosis will be reduced in orthopedic patients who are followed by evidence-based guidelines in comparison to orthopedic patients who are not followed by these guidelines. |
