Abstract Losartan is widely used drug in the clinical setting today, its main indications being mild to moderate hypertension, chronic heart failure, secondary stroke prevention and diabetic nephropathy. The aim of the present study was conducted to evaluate the adverse effects of losartan in rats and how to protect against these adverse effects, These effects regards to some haematological parameters, liver and kidney functions, antioxidant activity, as well as histopathological findings. Eighty female albino rats weighting at the beginning of the experiment 180 ± 20 gm. Animals were housed in cages at 25 ± 0.5º C. The animals were divided into 4 main groups: group I (control): non-treated animals. group II (treated with vitamin E only): Animals received Vitamin E only with a dose of 100 mg/kg bwt orally for 21 days sequentially. group III (treated with Losartan only): Animals received Losartan only with a dose of 0.9 mg/ra orally for 21 days sequentially. |
