Abstract 1:-Introduction: - Nanotechnology is the use of very small particles of material either by themselves or by their manipulation to create new large-scale materials. The size of the particles, though, is very important because at the length scale of the nanometer, 10-9m, the properties of the material actually become affected. The precise size at which these changes are manifested varies between materials, but is usually in the order of 100 nm or less.2:- Research scope: - The application of nanotechnology in the field of concrete by studying the effect of carbon nanotubes on the properties of hardened concrete.3:- Research objective: - This research aims to keep abreast of developments in nanotechnology in all the sciences and the benefit of using it in concrete, and that by studying the effect of carbon nanotubes addition on mechanical properties of concrete. A set of concrete mix design using different ratios of carbon nanotubes to study the effect of carbon nanotubes on the properties of hardened concrete in terms of compressive strength at different ages, tensile strength, and sulfate resistance as well as some sample were examinated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to determine the effect of adding carbon nanotubes on the molecular structure of concrete.4:- Steps Study: -In this the previous researches which studying the use of carbon nanotubes in the concrete were discussed, materials used in this research were tested to determine the properties of these materials, then concrete mixes were designed using different ratios of carbon nanotubes to study the effect of carbon nanotubes on the properties of hardened concrete.5:- Summary of Study:-The results showed that the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, tensile strength, and sulfate resistance increase when using carbon nanotubes. |
