Abstract The main objective of this study was to find a natural therapy to inhibit cancer proliferation & differentiation and reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.Achillea santolina wild plants were collected from Egyptian Mediterranean Northern Coast and Raphanus sativus seeds were obtained from Agriculture Research Centre, Giza, Egypt. An aqueous ethanol solution(80%) was used for extraction of A. santolina leaves, while 96% aqueous methanol solution was used for extraction of R. sativus seed. The total phenols concentration was determined using Folin-Ciocalteau method. The results showed that the methanolic R. sativus extract has higher phenolic content(791.98 mg/d.wt) than the ethanolic A. santolina extract (340.23 mg/d.wt). The flavonoids were estimated using Aluminum chloride method and the results exhibited that ethanolic A. santolina extract was richer in flavonoids (24.66 mg/g dwt) than that of methanolic R. sativus extract (1.025 mg/g d.wt). On the other hand, the antioxidant activity was determined using two methods (DPPH and PMA) and the results showed that the two plants are rich in antioxidants. |
