Abstract

This study was planned to throw the light on the prevalence of S. aureus in 200 random samples of fish burger and fish fillet. The bacteriological examination of 200 fish burger and fish fillet, 100 for each revealed that, 14 samples were positive for the presence of coagulase positive S. aureus out of 100 fish burger and 4 samples were positive for the presence of coagulase positive S. aureus out of 100 fish fillet, with a percentages of (14% and4%) respectively from the total collected samples. Coagulase negative S. aureus was isolated from fish burger and fish fillet with a percentage of 4% (four isolates) and 1% (one isolate) respectively. The results of antibiotic sensitivity for methicillin revealed that, three isolates were MRSA out of the 14 coagulase positive S. aureus isolates recovered from fish burger, while all the four coagulase positive isolates recovered from fish fillet proved to be not MRSA. All coagulase negative isolates (four from fish burger and one isolate from fish fillet) proved to be not MRSA according to the results of antibiotic sensitivity. PCR also, confirmed the presence of mecA gene in all the three isolates (methicillin resistant S. aureus), at 310 bp.
