Abstract

Scaphoid fracture is a common fracture affecting mainly young active people during their work or participating in sports activities. It has a devastating effect on economical and psychological aspects of patients whose occupation is dependent on their manual activities. Many of these patients are not willing to have their wrists immobilized for such long time. This study aimed at evaluating the efficacy of percutaneous cannulated Herbert’s screw fixation of acute scaphoid fractures using the value retrograde approach in producing satisfactory outcomes.
The purpose of this prospective study is to document the percutaneous Herbert screw fixation technique with free-hand method to stabilize acute scaphoid fractures and evaluated the clinical results. Thirty five patients with were fixed percutaneously by Herbert screw and reviewed for a minimum of 12 months (average 18 months).
