Abstract

A total of 190 migratory quails (Coturnix coturnix) trapped at Matrouh governorate, Egypt were examined for enteric parasites and 143 (75.26%) were infected. Nine species of enteric parasites were detected which are; 2 species of nematodes (Subulura brumpti and Dispharynx nasuta), 4 species of cestodes (Choanotaenia infundibulum, Raillietina tetragona, Raillietina echinobothrida and Triaenorhina rectangula) with overall prevalence of helminth parasites was (22.63%) and 3 species of enteric protozoan parasites (Eimeria bateri, Eimeria uzura and Cryptosporidium spp.) with overall prevalence of protozoan parasites was (52.63%). The prevalence of enteric parasites in migratory quails in relation to sex and the histopathological effect of these parasites were studied. Also the role which may be played by these migratory birds in transmission of some enteric parasites to the domesticated birds and to the human was discussed.
