Abstract

The purpose of this research is to measure influence of different finishing protocols of different ceramic materials on enamel wear.
63 ceramic samples were made in the form of cylinders; they were divided into 3 types of ceramics as following:
group I : 21 sample of monolithic zirconia, were finished by 3 ways; 1st one by polishing (no. 7) , 2nd one by glazing (no. 7), and 3rd one by polishing then glazing (no. 7).
group II : 21 sample of glass ceramic, were finished by 3 ways; 1st one by polishing (no. 7) , 2nd one by glazing (no. 7), and 3rd one by polishing then glazing (no. 7).
group III : 21 sample of hybrid ceramic, were finished by 3 ways; 1st one by polishing (no. 7) , 2nd one by glazing (no. 7), and 3rd one by polishing then glazing (no. 7).
63 premolars were used in chewing simulator for measuring the influence of each type of ceramic material and its finishing protocols on wear of enamel surface.
Vertical cusp height loss and volume loss of premolars were measured by non-contact profile meter before putting samples in chewing simulator.
Surface roughness was measured for all teeth and ceramic samples before and after chewing simulation.
All ceramic samples surfaces were studied using scanning electron microscope.
Vertical height losses for ceramic samples were measured after chewing simulation using non-contact profile meter.
It was found that highest values for loss in teeth height were detected in polished glazed suprinity followed by glazed bruxzir then glazed suprinity, while the least values were detected in glazed enamic followed by polished glazed enamic.
