Abstract Since the beginning of human life, people started looking for a shelter to live in, but because of increasing in human needs emerged the importance of finding a suitable building, which coordinated with technologies. Nowadays human needs are growing quickly so our built environment will have a great impact and the importance of creating new ways of (design, building functions, structure systems, and construction methods….etc.) will strongly appear. This research will discuss the effect of modern technology in architectural design by discussing ordinary design method and system. Then it will move to show the connection between human and nowadays technology by discussing (HCI) human – computer interaction. After that thesis will show the computer applications that embedded in architecture design. This research focuses on one of the most modern design methods, parametric design, by clarifying the difference between traditional design methods and parametricism from design criteria to construction stage. After explaining elements of traditional design processes and its procedure, the research will present parametricism as design theories, algorithms, helping computer programs, etc. then we can imagine the great effect, which will happen to our built environment with no ignoring for the project timescale. The thesis then moves on discussing helping modern technologies for the previously mentioned design process either is this technology used at the design stage or at simulation stage. Therefore, you can imagine how to translate such a parametric design into a real project. The expected effect on buildings will not only on its shape so thesis will describe what is the effect of this design methods and technology on buildings. The thesis will analyze some projects, which used this way of design with discussing desired goals of these projects, used techniques and its effect on our built environment. A case study is important for this research to help us to imagine the great scale of implications which will we reach by dealing with computer programs. Then thesis will discuss the effect of these digital tools on the designer role, visual thinking, and detailed and construction documentation of the project. In addition, this study will help in merging material properties in the design process and how we get benefits from it. This study serves the architect to reach what he widely wants not only as a building form but also as a function. Therefore, a new generation of buildings will appear to serve growing human needs with no ignoring the impact, which will happen to our surrounding built environment. |
