Abstract

The present study carried out to obtain reference values for head circumference & body height and body weight for children from birth to six years and 20 years of Sohag governorate in 2016 then study the correlation between these references with each other and compare it with adult references (20years) to obtain growth indices.
It has been found from the study that the head circumference value increases with increase in age and the higher increase is at the first and the second year then the increase become lower with increase in age till reach adult size.
The present study included other measurements , body height and body weight which increase with increase in age .
The study indicated that boys exceed girls in growth measurements , this can be explained by hormonal effects.
Furtherly, the study obtained growth indices of head circumference for boys and girls , the growth indices values increase with increase in age.
The study observed that there is a positive correlation between the head circumference & body height in most ages , also there is a correlation between head circumference and body weight.
The correlation between head circumference and height is stronger than head circumference and weight.
Conclusion
Mean values of HC , body height and weight increase with increase in age and values in boys were higher than girls in all ages.
The growth index increase with increase in age ,the values were higher in boys first but later on become higher in girls.
There was a positive association between HC &body height and weight ,this association was stronger with height than weight.
Recommendations
The constructed reference growth curves are a start for following secular trends in upper Egypt specially Sohag and are also in the presented layout an optimal clinical tool for health care. The positive correlation between HC & body height and weight may be useful in clinical uses.
