Abstract

In summary, MRI plays an important role in the diagnosis of
different pancreatic lesions, MRI is a good image quality for soft
tissue contrast and has a higher safety profile of intravascular
contrast media.
Diffusion weighted image (DWI) is an imaging technique
that is sensitive to water diffusion in living tissue, we can measure
the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in a given tissue to
differentiate between benign and malignant pancreatic tumors.
This study was designed to assess the role of MRI study
including diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) & dynamic contrast
enhancement in the evaluation of different pancreatic lesions.
Twenty patients with 23 pancreatic lesions were examined in
our study by MRI. The results of imaging techniques were compared
to laboratory investigations and pathological data.
Our study included 5 pancreatitis lesions, 8 pancreatic cystic
lesions, one case of focal pancreatitis & 9 patients had
adenocarcinoma.
MRI enabled us to assess the neoplastic pancreatic lesions
with accurate detection of extension, vascular encasement, nodal
involvement and hepatic metastatic lesions.
DWI and ADC values were significant methods to
differentiate between our study subgroups and control group;
(p<0.001).
Dynamic contrast study and time intensity curve enable us to
differentiate between focal pancreatitis and adenocarcinoma.
