Abstract This study aimed to investigate the effect of using drama activities in enhancing EFL speaking skills among primary school pupils. The study adopted the quasi-experimental ( pre test/ post test) design. A group of fifth year primary school pupils were randomly selected from Maged EL-Ghadr primary school for boys and girls in EL-Bajour directorate, in the academic year 2014-2015 ( 30 pupils in the experimental group and 30 pupils in the control group). The experimental group received training through drama activities, while the control group received regular instruction of teaching. The instruments included an EFL speaking test, rubric for assessing the participants’ EFL speaking skills, and an observation sheet for observing the participants’ speaking behavior. The test was administered to the participants of the study before implementing drama activities to measure their level in EFL speaking skills. The test was re-administered after implementation of drama activities. Results of the present study revealed that the experimental group’s EFL speaking skills were enhanced after the implementation of drama activities. Drama activities have an effect on enhancing EFL speaking skills and reducing speech anxiety. |
