Abstract

It is noted that there is a deficiency in researches which study the delay in response between the accelerator pedal sensors and the electronic throttle body actuator. The value of the delay in response between the accelerator pedal sensors and throttle body actuator is tested in three driving conditions slow, medium and sudden acceleration. A vehicle which equipped with an electronic throttle body as a case study (1.6L petrol engine) vehicle is chosen to be tested. The delay in response between pedal sensors & throttle body actuator is measured by recording these values on board test using Tech 2 device. The delay in response between the pedal sensors and throttle actuator is measured to be 0.5 sec. Simulation system is created in the laboratory to simulate the vehicle throttle by wire system. Pulse width modulation (PWM) circuit is created to control the electronic throttle body valve opening. Software is created by using LabVIEW program and data acquisition (DAQ) card to control the throttle body simulation system by receiving signals from the accelerator pedal and send output signals to the throttle body actuator to control the throttle body valve angle. Some tests are made on the electronic throttle body to measure the delay in response between pedal signals and the electronic throttle body actuator with different driving conditions. The delay in response between accelerator pedal & throttle body actuator is reduced using the proposed control software to be 0.3 sec.
