Abstract

The main objective of this research is to study the changes of the behavior of cement mortar in case of titanium dioxide nano-particles addition with various percentages. The experimental program considered two groups of cement mortars, the first group was prepared with well graded sand with titanium dioxide nano-particles additive percentage as 0%, 1%, 3% and 5%. The second group was prepared with sieved sand (passed #2.36mm & retained on #1.18mm) with titanium dioxide nano-particles additive percentage as 1%, 3% and 5%.
Rate of water absorption for mortar specimens decreased using high addition of titanium dioxide, which improves the rate of water absorption of cement mortar samples. Titanium Dioxide addition has an optimum ratio to enhance the compressive strength and the flexural strength. Sample of nano TiO2 appeared high dye degradation for methylene blue. The degradation reached 100% after 3h under visible light irradiation.
