Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most common and serious disease throughout the world. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the most important in this group. Medical treatment, CABG, and Percutaneous coronary intervention are the treatment options for CAD. Traumatic aortic regurgitation after PCI is considered to be an unusual complication, may occur during catheter manipulation. Assessment of aortic valve function pre and post PCI by echo Doppler in acute coronary syndrome patients was the aim of the study. This study included 50 patients was presented with acute coronary syndrome whom PCI was indicated, 11 of them presented with STEMI, 28 of them presented with non-STEMI and 11 of them presented with unstable angina. We have found that 6 cases in our study showing acute mild aortic regurgitation after PCI, and this may be happened as a result of aggressive use of multiple guiding catheter of different shapes and for long period which may induce injury of the aortic valve endothelium and subsequent thickening & dysfunction of the valve later on.So,Traumatic aortic regurgitation is one of complications of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) despite its occurrence is rare.
