Abstract Venous thromboprophylaxis (VTE) is a common complication after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and including both deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). DVT vary between 40%-60% without chemoprophylaxis. VTE is still one of the most preventable causes of death so it is mandatory to use chemoprophylaxis after surgery. In this study we compared the incidence of DVT with using Rivaroxiban versus Enoxaparin after THA ; Rivaroxiban 10 mg oral once daily for 15 days or Enoxaparin 40 IU subcutaneous daily for 15 days and both drugs was started 6-12 hours postoperative. In this study ; Overall incidence of DVT was 5%,in Rivaroxiban group was 10% and 0% in Enoxaparin group. Enoxaparin is more effective than Rivaroxiban with no different in safety. High incidence of DVT with Rivaroxiban than Enoxaparin not matched with others studies maybe due to limited number of our patients to draw a significant conclusion or may be due to lack of efficacy of the used generic Rivaroxiban. The comparison between the two drugs needs another limb as an extended study for 5 weeks prophylaxis before stating a solid conclusion. DVT was increased with increase the age and BMI. |
