Abstract

Introduction: Psychopathology is the systematic study of abnormal experience, cognition and behaviour the study of the products of a disordered mind. It includes the explanatory psychopathologies, in which there are assumed explanations according to theoretical constructs, and descriptive psychopathology, which is the precise description, categorization and definition of abnormal experiences as recounted by the patient and observed in his behavior.
Method: The search of literature targeted a wide range of observational studies on descriptive psychopathology published from January 1975 until Feb 2017. A search of MEDLINE/PubMed was performed using combination of keywords (Affect, Mood, Speech, Cognition, Memory, Thought, Perception, Social Behavior, Motor Behavior, sexual behavior, consciousness) and (Psychopathology(.
Conclusion: The current study is a qualitative observational systematic review, It addressed an important three points which are highlighting basics of descriptive psychopathology, describing updates of psychopathology and recognizing relation of psychopathology to diagnosis of psychiatric disorder. The study is qualitative because the results of relevant studies are summarized but not statistically combined.
Systematic review in psychopathology is a complex work , and required searching in different databases as well as locating non- published studies e.g. by contacting expert in the field, or hand-searching conference proceedings . Results of the systematic review are divided into 8 chapters according to the 8 domains searched.
The strengths and weaknesses of the review: Psychiatric research and practice depend on the method of understanding psychology. A breakdown or in distortion of understanding and the discontinuity of the meaningfulness of psychological connections are powerful indicators of disorder, even though the predictive validity of such events is limited.
Not being sufficiently critical in the selection of trials and including too many of low quality.
