Abstract

Low back pain is one of the most common costly health problems due to the considerable impact on daily functioning, sickness absence,and work disability. LBP is a common musculoskeletal disorder affecting 80% of people at some point in their lives (Shiel, 2013).Implementing Relaxation techniques intervention into the workplace should be seen as an investment, as it eventually will lead to decrease daily discomfort and improvement in performing daily of living activities and Quality of Working Life , reduction in pain intensity of pain improved productivity, decreased absenteeism and turnover, and lower insurance and workers compensations (Posadzki , Lewandowski &Terry ,2012).The aim of the study was to examine the effect of relaxation techniques program on the quality of working life among industrial workers with chronic low back pain for worker at the textile factory in Kafr El-Sheikh city Kafr El-Sheikh governorate.A random sample of 100 workers with LBP different sectors at the textile factory in Kafr El-Sheikh city who were selected and divided alternatively into two equal groups , 50 workers each group I(study group):- received relaxation techniques program along with routine hospital care group II(control group):- received routine hospital care only. Data collection for this study was carried out in about three months from November 2016 to the end of January 2017.Data was collected through the following:I- A structured interviewing questionnaire developed by the researcher: (Appendix II) that included:Socio-demographic data such as worker’s age, gender, occupation,income, marital status and educational level.Personal health habits data regarding smoking and added to practicing of exercise (types and patterns).Working characteristics such as work duration, number of hours seated in working day, Number of days work per week.Characteristics of LBP that include: as intensity of low back pain,Biophysiological measurement: such as measuring weight.II- (A numeric rating scale NRS) (Appendix III) to assess data about pain intensity III- Quality of working life scale: (Appendix 1V) to assess about 23 items, Incorporates a six factor structure. The six factors are: General Well-Being, Home-Work Interface, Job and Career Satisfaction, Control at Work, Working Conditions and Stress at Work.IV- Oswestry low back pain disability questionnaire (Appendix V )to
collect data about It included 10 items about pain intensity , personal care, walking ,lifting ,sitting ,standing ,sleeping ,sex life ,traveling and social life.The main Results in the current study:The mean score of age among study group was 41.4 ± 8.7 compared to 40.5 ± 7.8 among control group.The higher percentage of the both study & control group were not assumed practice any sports .The higher percentage of studied subjects had diabetes as a family history.There was a statistical significant relation among some sociodemographic variables on post intervention and Oswestry Disability Index including distance between home and work setting among intervention group.Thirty percent of the study group had sever pain pre intervention the result turned to become no one had sever pain post intervention.There was significant improvement in total mean score of all (ten Items) of Oswestry disability scale Items after intervention among the study group.After intervention a high statistical significant difference between the two groups was appeared regarding all items of oswestry disability and total disability(improvement in activities of daily living).Relaxation technique intervention had a high statistical significant effect on the mean score of all individual factors of quality of working life scale and overall quality score among study group.43.5% of yarn and textile workers who reported agreed with good QOWL had moderate disability pre intervention.There was statistical significant relationship between pain intensity and disability level among the studied workers post intervention Increase in pain intensity was associated with higher percentages of degree of disability.Increase in pain intensity was associated with higher percentages of degree of disability.
