Abstract

The aims of this research are to develop, construct and evaluate a new-invented system for tree-branches chopping. The chopping system consists of frame, tires, draw-bar pull, 20-hp electrical motor, feeding, cutting, chopping units and blower suction-fan. The developed new invented system for tree-branches chopping was manufactured in a private workshop at Sharkia Governorate and was tested in Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority, Anshas, Sharkia Governorate at two sequence years 2014 and 2015.The treatments included five factors as follows: (1) Feeding-drum speeds: The tested feeding-drum speeds were 30, 50, 70 and 90 rpm 0.083, 0.160, 0.250 and 0.330 m/s).(2) Cutting-knives speeds: The tested cutting-knife speeds of 350, 400, 450 and 500 rpm (6.69, 7.53, 8.47 and 9.42 m/s).(3) Chopping-knives speeds: The tested chopping-knife speeds were 900, 1000, 1100, and 1200 rpm (27.31, 30.35, 33.38 and 36.42 m/s).(4) Tree-branche moisture contents: The tested tree-branch moisture contents were 10, 15, 20 and 25 % in wet base.
(5) Tree-branch diameters: The tested tree-branch diameters were 20, 30, 40 and 50 mm.(6) Concave-hole diameters: The tested concave-hole diameters were 14, 16, 18 and 20 mm.(7) Clearances: The tested clearances between chopping-knife tip and the top of chopping housing were 5, 8, 11 and 14 mm. The clearances were tested for measuring the average of chopping length. The machine productivity, power and specific energy were measured using the optimum clearance of 5 mm.
Measurements:
(1) Average cutting-length of tree branches.
(2) Average and percentage chopping-length of tree branches.
(3) Machine productivity.
(4)Tree carving.Power requirement and specific energy.(5) The total operation and production costs of using the chopping system.
