Abstract

Background: After quite a long time, heart failure (HF) turns into a typical cardiovascular condition whose occurrence and predominance are increasing. Being a typical cause for urgent hospital admission, it is a noteworthy reason for morbidity and mortality for the patients. In Egypt around 1, 5 million individuals have CHF and yearly incidence around 111,937 new cases diagnosed with CHF. A multidisciplinary approach appears the most ideal approach to manage patients with HF since it has been appeared to enhance clinical outcome and particularly to diminish the rate of readmission related to acute or chronic decompensation. The aim: Determine effect of applying clinical pathway for patients with Congestive Heart Failure on their health status outcomes. Hypotheses: Four hypotheses were formulated: (1) There is statistical significance less complains in patients going through clinical pathway than those who are undergoing hospital routine care. (2) There is statistical significance less level of anxiety in patients going through clinical pathway than those who are undergoing hospital routine care. (3) There is statistical significance higher level satisfaction in patients going through clinical pathway than those who are undergoing hospital routine care. (4) There is statistical significance shorter length of hospital stay in patients going through clinical pathway than those who are undergoing hospital routine care. Research design: A quasi-experimental research design was utilized in this study on a convenient sample of 68 patients with CHF divided to equal group (34 patients each). The study was conducted, in Cardiology department and outpatient clinic of cardiology at Sohag Cardiac and Hepatic institution. Tools: Five tools were used for data collection Tool 1: Congestive heart failure patient Assessment, Tool 2: Clinical Pathway Protocol, Tool 3: Congestive heart failure patient anxiety level assessment, Tool 4: Congestive heart failure patient satisfaction assessment and Tool 5: Congestive heart failure patient variance Sheet. Results: The first and the second hypotheses were supported as a good improvement in complains of study group and also have less anxiety level. The third and fourth hypotheses were supported as higher level satisfaction level and finally those study patients have shorter length of hospital stay. Conclusion: Patient with congestive heart failure exposed for several complications. Improving care and practice can favorable affect the incidence of these complications.
