Abstract Ovarian cancer is the highest prevalence gynecological cancer. The need to highly specific biomarkers is urgently needed to monitor early detection of ovarian cancer. Objectives: the present work is aimed to determine mesothelin gene SNP frequency among Egyptian patients carrying ovarian cancer. Methods: The two SNPs (rs1057147, rs57272256) in the mesothelin gene are genotyped in 80 healthy and 80 ovarian cancer patients. Results: Among the 80 healthy and 80 ovarian cancer patients, we found A-variant carriers were 22 and 42 for control and for ovarian cancer groups respectively (P< 0.001), in mesothelin gene SNP (rs1057147 G> A). While in mesothelin gene SNP (rs57272256) we found T-variant carriers were 30 and 59 for control and for ovarian cancer groups respectively (P< 0.001). Haplotype GACT carrier were found to be with highest risk factors (P< 0.001, OR= 10.85 and CI 90% = 3.9-30.02). Our study suggests that the two mesothelin gene polymorphism have a significant correlation with ovarian cancer development when compared to control group. These two gene polymorphism may be used as a diagnostic marker for early detection of ovarian cancer. |
