Abstract

Pain is the most common presenting complaint in the Emergency Room (ER). Oligoanalgesia, means under treatment of pain and It is common in ER. Factors associated with oligoanalgesia include older age, ethnicity, provider perceptions of a patient’s pain, concern about drug-seeking behavior, and reluctance to mask symptoms to ensure an accurate diagnosis. Our study included 400 patients who were arrived to Mansoura University Emergency Hospital .All patients are subjected to the following: NRS before and after treatment .Resuscitation : if needed History taking and physical examination. Investigation : when needed Treatment : analgesic type, dose, and rout .The present study revealed the following results : There were no statically significant in vital signs before and after pain management in pulse rate, SBP, DBP, and Respiratory rate. There were no statistically significant in age, gender and level of education with overall satisfaction. There were no statistically significant in NRS before management in satisfied and dissatisfied group. There were statistically significant after pain reduction in relation to overall satisfaction after treatment. There were not statistically significant in asking for analgesia between satisfied and dissatisfied group. There were statistically significant with ER physician response to assessment of their pain,ER physicianexplain consequence of pain management, staff response for physicians order, another medication order response by staff and expectation pain management. The patient take more than one drug shows statistically significant as regard overall satisfaction than who take one drug. The NRS reduction of 2 or more was 29.5%in studied group after analgesic administration. NRS before treatment was moderate intensity in 37.8% of studied group and severe intensity was 62.2% of studied group. The overall satisfaction was (15.5%) satisfied and(84.5% )dissatisfied as regard pain management• The present study concluded that : There was under estimation for pain assessment and management. There was underutilization for opioids for severe pain group. The present study demonstrate that Patient satisfaction among ER patients is associated with a reduction in pain of 2 or more points and number of medications administered. Effective pain management is associated with improved patient satisfaction among ER patients with painful conditions.
