Abstract This in vitro study was carried out on epoxy resin models to compare the stresses induced by two different prosthetic options for restoring long mandibular anterior free end saddle (Class IV Kennedy classification). The models were prepared to simulate the oral cavity. Periodontal ligament of the artificial teeth was simulated by adding 0.3mm silicone material around the roots. Oral mucosa simulation was also simulated by adding an even layer of 2 mm silicone material over the ridge area. On the epoxy resin models, different prosthetic designs were constructed as follow: Model A: Lower removable partial denture with extra-coronal resilient precision attachment on the splinted first and second premolars on both sides as a direct retainer and lingual plate as a major connector was fabricated. Model B: Lower removable partial overdenture retained with single symphyseal implant and attachment on first premolars on both sides and lingual plate as a major connector. The implant was placed in the midline according to the instructions of the manufacture. The attachment used for this study was OT strategy because it is esthetically accepted. |
