Abstract The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of locally delivered melatonin as adjunct to non surgical periodontal therapy on the GCF level of DKK1 in chronic periodontitis patients with type II diabetes mellitus. PICOTS: P: chronic periodontitis patients with type II diabetes mellitus. I: Intra pocket topical application of melatonin after non-surgical periodontal therapy. C: Non-surgical periodontal therapy only. O: GCF level of DKK1 and clinical parameters (probing depth, clinical attachment level, gingival index and plaque index) before and after treatment. T: 3 months follow up. S: Randomized clinical trial. Research question: What is the effect of topical application of melatonin after non surgical periodontal therapy on the GCF level of DKK1 and clinical parameters (probing depth, clinical attachment level, gingival index and plaque index) in chronic periodontitis patients with type II diabetes mellitus after 3 months follow up? Null hypothesis: Intra pocket topical application of melatonin will not lead to further reduction in the GCF level of DKK1 or improvement in clinical parameters in chronic periodontitis patients with type II diabetes mellitus. 38 |
