Abstract

Arthritis is inflammation of one or more of joints. The main symptoms
of arthritis are joint pain and stiffness, which typically worsen with age.
This study was performed to evaluate the role of B-mode &power
Doppler ultrasound of the wrist and finger joints of early arthritic patients
and to correlate it with the clinical examination and laboratory
investigations.
Our study conducted upon 30 patients (23 females and 7 males), their
age ranged from 15-61 years with the mean age 40.9 years. The disease
duration ranged from 2 weeks to 40 week with a mean of 20.46 weeks
referred from Rheumatology clinic to Radio-diagnosis and Medical Imaging
department at Tanta university hospital for assessment by ultrasonography
during the period between December 2015 and January 2017, all patients
were clinically and laboratory diagnosed to have arthritis of hand and wrist
joints.
All patients were subjected to the following:
 History taking.
 Clinical evaluation; the clinical joint status including swelling and /or
tenderness on pressure.
 Laboratory investigation including the erythrocyte sedimentation rate
(ESR) and rheumatoid factor, as well as C-reactive protein (CRP).
 Gray scale ultrasound and power Doppler examination in case
clinically and laboratory diagnosed to have arthritis.
