Abstract
Sickle cell means an abnormal crescent shaped red blood cell that result from a single change in the amino acid sequence of the cells hemoglobin which causes the cell to contort, especially under low oxygen conditions. The present study aimed to assess the effect of upgrading maternal concepts and skills on reducing pain severity of their children suffering from sickle cell disease. Materials and Method: The study was conducted at 50 children suffering from sickle cell disease and their mothers who were attending in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Unit at Tanta University Hospital and Inpatient Pediatric Department of El-Oboor Hospital in Khafr Al-Sheikh. Data were collected by using three tools: a structured Interview Sheet, Pain Assessment Tool and Mothers and Children Knowledge Questionnaire Sheet.
