Abstract The present study was carried out on 30 male rats of local strain to study the effect of apocynin on liver toxicity induced by microwaves exposure for 16 days. The animals were divided into three groups (10 rats in each group): group 1: Control group: The animals of this group received saline (one ml) intraperitoneal once daily for 16 days. group 2: Microwave exposed group: The animals of this group were exposed to microwaves at frequency of 2.45 GHz for 15 minutes once daily for a period of 16 days. group 3: Apocynin and Microwave exposed group: The animals of this group received apocynin intraperitoneal, 1 hour before microwave exposure and continued during the other 16 days with a dose (20 mg/kg) once daily. At the final day of experiment all the parameters were estimated: 1. Serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST). 2. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT). 3. Serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP). 4. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα). 5. Liver malondialdehyde (nmol/gm tissue). 6. Liver glutathione peroxidase (U/gm protein) |
