Abstract Acute postmastectomy pain after modified radical mastectomy surgeries represents an important challenge and there are many ways for postoperative analgesia but Pecs II block is considered the best type for analgesia. In that study we use dexmeditomidine or fentanyl as additives in that block to compare their effects and side effects and to test the hypothesis that addition of these drugs to bupivacaine could prolong postoperative analgesia and decrease 24 hours postoperative consumption of opioids .after data collection and analysis we concluded that the addition of dexmedetomidine in Pecs II block is effective to minimize the total amount of 24 hours postoperative opioids used after modified radical mastectomy surgery with prolongation and potentiation of postoperative analgesia and reduction of postoperative nausea and vomiting while addition of fentanyl to the block only potentiates the block for 4 hours postoperatively with no other effects. |
