Abstract

STDs or venereal diseases are sometimes referred to as sexually transmitted infections, since these conditions involve the transmission of an infectious organism through sexual contact. The prevalence of STDs continues to increase throughout the world threatening millions of people. However, the actual incidence of STDs is not known in most countries. Little work was done to evaluate the size of this problem in Egypt.
STDs are infrequently transmitted by any other type of contact (blood, body fluids or tissue removed from an STD infected person and placed in contact with an uninfected person). Health problems and long-term consequences from STDs tend to be more severe for women than for men. Some STDs can cause pelvic infections such as PID, which may cause a tubo-ovarian abscess. The abscess, in turn, may lead to scarring of the reproductive organs, which can result in an ectopic pregnancy, infertility or even death.
Increasing students` awareness of the negative effects of STDs is important to prevent occurrence of these diseases
Aim of the study:
The study aimed to assess knowledge of Mansoura University students about Sexually Transmitted Diseases ( STDs)
