Abstract

This approach conducts visual inspection using ASTM inspection from so as to evaluate the state of the Roads which represent the determination of its maintenance and its time this kind of information is very important and useful for highway agencies to provide the best maintenance or rehabilitation to its network of roads. In this work the Pavement Condition index (PCI) was used as an indication of the states of the road , it’s a numerical indicator used for the rating of pavement condition , pavement structure and surface condition using in that the analyzed data which collected in tables from the visual inspection of the road sections. The Data in the Tables was collected for each section for the studied roads in order to represent an indication of distress, severity, and Extent. This Data is analyzed for each section and used to represent the total state of the road in one single number /, the pavement condition index (PCI),which makes it possible to compare between the roads and make the best decision in using the budget of the agency which allocated for maintenance. The PCI Method is used to evaluate the pavement condition of six main Roads in Alexandria these roads were chosen to represent the most important roads in different areas and districts. Thesix roads included in this study are: East Elmahmoudia Road, West Elmahmoudia Road, El-ManaraRoad, Abo-KirRoad,Port Said Road and Moahmed-Nagib Road. Distresses varied from road to another but the most common distress were: Polished aggregate and potholes, Polished Aggregate happens as a result of using soft aggregate in the Mixture, while Potholes results from weak spots in the base or subgrade. According to this result Mixtures Design must be designed to prevent excessive bitumen ratio and soft aggregate shouldn’t be used to prevent bleeding, corrugation and polished aggregate And quality control measures should be taken into account while executing maintenance or rehabilitation.
