Abstract ABSTRACT Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease of high morbidity and mortality. Much of its morbidity and mortality is related to micro- and macro-vascular complications, however, it is also associated with MSK disorders that can be very incapacitating and significantly compromise the quality of life. MSK complications of DM are the most common endocrine arthropathies. The upper limb, especially the hands are the most frequently affected, so the term “diabetic hand” has arisen. The present study asses the frequency of MSK complications in 100 T1DM adolescent, recruited from pediatric diabetic specialized clinic, children’s Hospital, Ain Shams University, and 50 non diabetic healthy control. A hundred diabetic patients, they were 49 male and 51 female. Their ages ranged between 10 to 18 years with a mean of 14.8 ± 4.9 years, the duration of disease ranged between months to 12 years with mean duration 4.2 ± 2.9 years.
