Abstract

Eight cases at different operating conditions were investigated in a theoretical study on a proposed desalination system presented based on humidification-dehumidification desalination technique with open air open water cycle. The model was validated by comparing its results with the corresponding experimental results of other studies. Four operating parameters have been studied, which are: inlet air and inlet water temperatures and air and water mass flow rates. The productivity is calculated in each case. The results show that the most effective parameter is the inlet water temperature. The results also show that if air mass flow rate increases the productivity decreases, however, if water mass flow rate increases the productivity increases. Increasing both inlet water and air temperatures to the humidifier results in higher productivity than if each is increased individually. Also, increasing both water and air temperatures give higher productivity than increasing their flow rates through the system. Gained Output Ratio (GOR) is calculated at the maximum productivity of each case.
