Abstract

Head nurses are professional nurses in first line or middle management position with authority on subordinates for effective performance, responsibility for resource utilization and accountability for work outcome. Head nurses professional commitment is defined as the intensity of their identification with and involvement in their responsibilities and it is defined as their orientation toward the profession in terms of their loyalty to, identification with, and involvement in the profession. The present research aimed to study head nurses professional commitment toward management responsibilities at Tanta University Hospitals. The study was conducted at Tanta University Hospitals. Subjects consisted of all available head nurses (98) working in Tanta University Hospital at the time of the data collection. They were (47)head nurse working in Main University Hospital, (3) in ophthalmology Hospital, (16) in Student Hospital and (32) in Emergency Hospital. Data of the study were collected by using head nurses, professional commitment toward accomplishment of management responsibilities scale. The tool consisted of two parts. Part one included identification data of head nurses. Part two (a) included professional commitment of the head nurses towards accomplishment of activities related to management responsibility from the opinion of head nurses. The responses of head nurses were measured on five points Likert scale ranging from strongly disagree =1 to strongly agree =5.
