Abstract Over the past 6 month 30 patients with renal masses were involved in our study and separated into 2 groups where 15 patients underwent open radical nephrectomy and the other 15 patients underwent laparoscopic radical nephrectomy. Laparoscopic Transperitoneal approach was used in all patients. It is preferred due to our surgeon’s experience and familiarity. In spite of the longer duration of LRN in comparison with ORN as a surgical procedure, LRN showed less incidence of perioperative complication with shorter length of hospital stay, earlier time to oral intake, and less pain medication however no statistically significant results were obtained probably due to the limited number of cases encountered in our study These surgical and oncological results following laparoscopic radical nephrectomy are encouraging. Further studies of long-term follow-up may be required to establish the efficacy of the laparoscopic approach in dealing with the renal cancer. |
