Abstract

Internet addiction is a biopsychosocial phenomenon that result from an interaction
tween many factors including biological and/or genetic predisposition, psychological
onstitution, social environment and the nature of the activity itself. Internet addiction
efinition has been derived from DSM-IV criteria for addiction and obsession. Gold- berg
1995) first proposed the existence of internet addiction as a discrete disorder. Young
1996) was borrowed the criteria of pathological gambling from the DSM-IV, also defined
internet addiction as ”an impulse control disorder that does not involve an intoxicant and is
akin to pathological gambling The problem of internet addiction is affecting people with
varying frequency around the world and has produced negative impacts on the academic,
lational, social, financial, psychological, and occupational aspects of life .Indeed, it was
reported that Internet addiction problem has been linked a lot with students especially
university students.
The present study aimed to determine the degree of internet addiction and identify
the relationship between internet addiction and psychological &social adjustment among
faculty of nursing students, Alexandria University.
This study followed descriptive design .It was conducted at the faculty of nursing,
Alexandria University. The current study was held at the second semester of the academic
year 20l3-2014.
The total number of the students enrolled at the faculty during this academic year
amounted to 1185 registered students, 50% of the registered students were recruited using
onvenient sampling technique, i.e. 600 students .
