Abstract

This study was performed to evaluate the effect of intra-articular injection (IA) of Amphotericin-B to induce arthritis of the stifle joint in dogs through the use of radiography and ultrasonography. A 2ml of 1% Amphotericin B was injected intraarticularley in the left stifle joint of each dog with a 5 days interval. Animals were divided into 4 groups on the basis of the follow-up period (10 days,21 days, 60days and 90 days) after injection to achieve different degrees of arthritis. An assessment of X- ray and ultrasonography were performed. The obtained results revealed that, arthritic changes were observed in all animals in the 4 groups. Acute inflammatory reaction was developed after 10 days of induction which appeared as an increased synovial effusion and emergence different degrees of arthritis in the other groups. Emergence of changes in synovitis, capsulitis and loss of the structure of the cartilage matrix and osteophyte formation. Amphotericin-B is effective, and was considered a good matter for researcher to use it in arthritis induction in a short period .Ultrasonography has a several advantages over X-ray as adiganostic tool for diagnosis of osteoarthritis OA.
