Abstract

Fourteen edentulous patients with conventional complete dentureseeking implant-retained overdentures were selected from the outpatient clinic Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University and the Specialized Dental Hospital, Kobri Elkoba Military Medical Centeraccording to approved protocol.
For each patient, two implants were inserted one on each canine region to retain mandibular overdenture. The patients were equally divided into two groups according to material of denture base as follows:
First group: for the patients of this group two implants were inserted one on each canine region to retain mandibular overdenture that was constructed from thermoplastic resin.
Second group: for the patients of this group two implants were inserted one on each canine region to retain mandibular overdenture that was constructed from conventional heat cured acrylic resin.
Three months after implant fixture installation, the patient was recalled for insertion of ball attachment and loaded with denture.
Evaluation of the implants supporting structure was carried out at denture insertion (implant loading), 6 and 12 months after loading using cone beam radiography.
The implants stability was measured at implant insertion and 12 months after loading using implant stability tester (osstel).
