Abstract

COPD is a common preventable and curable disease. It is characterized by a progressive airway obstruction and inflammation in airways and lung parenchyma in response to smoking or pollution. COPD exacerbations and comorbidities represent the most important medical challenge concerning this disease.
Comorbidities are common with COPD and commonly its diagnosis represents an important medical challenge. Cardiovascular comorbidities represent the most common most dangerous comorbidities and a common cause for hospital admission and mortalities.
The most common cardiovascular comorbidities are right cardiovascular dysfunction, CHF, IHD and arrhythmias.
That better handling will allow a possible important reduction of mortality and morbidity with a better ICU management of this commonly encountered problem.
