Abstract

Efforts has been done to minimize production of hazardous waste;
accumulated waste has become one of the most important environmental
challeng that theworld faces tody.According to recent surveys, the most
common contaminants reported in wastewater are heavy metals. Therefore,
inexpensive materials for removing and entrapping heavy metal wastes from
contaminated water are requires concentration of the etals a smaller volume
followed by recovery. Different treatment techniques have been developed a
new adsorbents from plentiful sources of natural wastes.
1-The main objective of this study was performed to investigate the
applicability of clay minerals in wastewater treatment. For this purpose,
kaolinite, zeiolite and bentonite was obtained from Alahram Company.
Synthetic and sewage wastewaters were used for experiment. Synthetic
heavy metal solutions Pb2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+ were prepared with using
standard metal solutions. Sewage wastewater samples were obtained
fromCentral laboratory for environment quality montring in Benha
governorate In the experiments, the effects of adsorbent dosage, contact
(agitation) time, and initial concentration on Pb2+ Ni2+, Zn2+ removal were
investigated separately. According to experimental results, the conclusion
remarks from this study could be given as follows:
In the experiments, the adsorbent doses were taken as 2,6, 10, 20, 30, 40,
and 50 g/L kaolinite, zeiolite and bentonite clay minerals for synthetic
Pb2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+. It was found that the best adsorbent dose was 50 g/l
for the removal heavy metals (Pb2+, Ni2+, Zn2+). Results for removal
efficiency show that (99.94, 99.36, 97.70) (99.92 ,96.99 ,96.76),(99.97,
96.68 , 97.33) by adding bentonite ,zeolite and kaolinite for removal
Pb2+,Ni2+,Zn2+ respectively
