Abstract
Recently a new bioceramic root canal sealer (Endosequence BC sealar) was introduced in the market with claims of favorable physical and biological properties. So the aim of this study was to compare the dimensional stability and flow, sealing ability and biological compatibility of the BC sealer against a gold standard sealer which is the AH Plus.
The dimensional stability and flow were assessed using the ADA no 57 and ISO 6876/2001 specifications respectively. The biocompatibility was assessed by evaluation of the inflammatory and immunological responses when placed in the dorsal surfaces of wistar rats.
Regarding the physical properties, BC sealer was not dimensionally stable but had acceptable flow and bond strength. The BC sealer was biologically compatible however the tissues tended to show an elevated inflammatory and immunological response as an immediate reaction to the sealer which decreased by time.
