Abstract

UPJ obstruction is defined as a restriction of urinary outflow that, once left untreated, will lead to progressive renal deterioration or further damage. In children, the obstruction is furthermost commonly associated with congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract. The most common congenital hydronephrosis is ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction then obstructive megaureter and rarely midureteric obstruction. Acquired cases of UPJ obstruction are less often identified. Through the increased in the number of patients with detected prenatal and postnatal hydronephrosis, pediatric urologists are confronted to differentiate between obstructive and non-obstructive dilatation. In our study, UPJO is diagnosing by: ultrasound, CT, IVU, renal scintigraphy and VCUG. But, these methods cannot provide anatomical and functional data about affected kidney. There is no single method giving a full data essential for the diagnosis and conventional methods have many restrictions. Accessibility of both anatomical and functional data is required for creation the ideal decision. Through, using enhanced MRU in patients with UPJ obstruction in pediatric age group, the subsequent benefits might be got in a single study: combination of morphology & function, high resolution of the morphological images of the kidney function, dependable determination of split renal function and urinary excretion, and finally avoid the exposure to an ionizing contrast.
