Abstract Interest and concern about the health effects of bisphenol A (BPA) have been growing due to its wide availability in the environment. It has been shown to leach from food and beverage containers and some dental sealants and composites under normal conditions of use. These hazards include breast and prostate cancer, decline in sperm counts, abnormal penile/urethra development in males, early sexual maturation in females, neurobehavioral problems, increasing prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes, and immune system effects. In addition, BPA can cause liver, kidneys, brain, and other organs injury through formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The liver could be largely exposed to BPA as it is the site for the metabolism and detoxification of xenobiotics including BPA. The latter has been reported to be associated with abnormalities of liver function, hepatic damage, excess lipid accumulation and mitochondrial dysfunction which is associated with an increase in oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis. The present work aimed at: 6. Clarify the adverse effects of BPA on liver functions, inflammatory mediators and structure in male rats to address the molecular mechanisms underlying them.7. Evaluate the curative and prophylactic role of natural products like Cur, Prp and NAC on modulating BPA-induced liver fibrosis. |
