Abstract ABSTRACT: Objectives: to discuss outcomes, complications, avoidance of complications and recent trends for treatment of complications. Study setting: Egypt , all over the world. Patient: morbid obese individuals. Results: It was shown to be extremely successful in decreasing excess weight in patients within a short time. Also, a short list of complications contributes to its attractiveness as a treatment. Among them, gastric leaks after LSG procedures can be a very serious, life threatening complication that needs immediate attention. Its benefits are far more than those associated with a reduction in gastric volume and its results in terms of weight loss and improvement of co morbidities are superior to those obtained with other restrictive procedures. In addition, LSG offers further advantages such as high efficiency, low technical complexity and low rate of surgical complications. Conclusion: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is a promising procedure for obesity surgical treatment, with good early weight loss and low morbidity. Recommendations: Further data are needed to assess long-term effectiveness and safety of LSG. In patients with very high initial BMI, LSG could be used in a staged concept. Other indications are: in cases with dense adhesions of the small bowel, patients with inflammatory bowel disease and patients where repeated endoscopy of the duodenum is essential |
